About the client:
Coffee beans from Blue Mountain in Jamaica are rare, and regarded as one of the world’s finest. Marley Coffee is a producer and distributor of Blue Mountain coffee. Rohan Marley, infuses the company with his father’s philosophy of unity and strives to inspire and improve the world through its coffee and its various charities.
About the project:
To mark the opening of the first franchise of Marley Coffee One Love café, we were approached to design the interior design concept as well as the brand identity.
Our concept was born from the idea of the circle as a representation of unity. One space where people from different backgrounds come together, to enjoy products from all over the world, connecting across social and cultural boundaries and promoting understanding.
This circle as well as the indigenous meaning of Jamaica as the "land of wood and water", became the basis for the undulating table which meanders through the whole space. This table is made in brass, and it glints with the interior illumination to reinforce its fluidity. The brass varies in height so as to be used as a table, bench or to allow people to pass through. It also provides space for intimate live music performance.
Other elements of the interior include a glass meeting room with a bottle rack wall, tassel curtains and an exhibition wall for audiovisuals and objects to tell Marley's story. The space feels less like a franchise coffee house and more like a crossover cultural and social experience.
The furniture and cuhions are varied but unified with patterned Missoni textile upholstery.
We designed the shop identity merchdising items to Ready-to-Drink products which were distributed throughout multiple South Korean stores.
The illumination was designed by Minsang Cho, it mimics the brass table and introduces groups of butterfly OLED lamps which interact with customers.
